If you were alive in 2009, it was damn near impossible to walk into a club and not hear Sonic C.’s “Stickin’”. This track has a Dutch House style build and drop immediately recognizable to anyone who heard at least some of it before. Of course, I do not mean the Sonic C. is dutch, the Miami-boy just knows how to make it sound awesome.

After a lengthy hiatus, Sonic C. is back on the grind with a bunch of new tunes and some great support (even from dubstep dynamos Skrillex and Caspa). Check out these tunes, grab the free ones, and be on the lookout for Sonic in the near future.

Olek Is Crocheting Over A Secret

Olek is a Polish-born artist who resides in London where she is most well-known for her crochet work. Using her trademark colorful camouflage pattern, she will cover anything in sight with a net of crocheted fabric. She attacks everything from the Wall Street Bull in New York City to her latest “apartment installation” at Tony’s Gallery in London.

This gallery piece is an entire apartment covered in colorful and intricate crochet work. She uses quotations from her text messages and emails to explore the progression of herself as a woman and her recent move to London. The piece is titled “I do not expect to be a mother, but I do expect to die alone.”

Olek’s work is so colorful it would be hard not to have a happy reaction to it. There is a deeper truth behind all of the color, though. As she says in her artist’s statement, “What do I intend to reveal? You have to pull the end of the yarn and unravel the story behind the crochet.”

FWP: Tell us a little bit about yourself for our readers.

Hello everybody my name is Josh, artist name Crumps, I’m 23, I was born in Australia. I started djing in May 2010 and producing in July of the same year. Favorite things to do outside of music would have to be sport and video games.

Your tracks have a very interesting vibe to them. When I listen to your work, I feel darkness, yet they feel full of energy at the same time. How do your tracks make you feel when you hear them?

I’m not sure, haha. I feel good when I listen to my tracks because I feel like I’ve achieved something when I finish them. I put a lot of effort into each of my tracks so it feels nice to hear the finished product. I suppose I do feel the energy, too, they are hard hitting and heavy, but still somewhat uplifting.

You did a remix for Rob De Large’s single “Anger.” How was that?

I had a great time remixing Anger. From the time I started to produce the track, it all just flowed so well. Anger has some great parts to it also, which made it very easy to be inspired yet still make something that showed my own style. On top of that, it is going to be a huge EP so I’m very happy to be a part of it.

When producing (be it originals or remixes) what do you aim to do? Is there a certain sound you’re going for? Or do you like to experiment?

Haha, good question. I do have my own sound, but I don’t necessarily aim for it. It always just seems to happen that way, almost like I can’t escape it. I do experiment a lot with sounds, always trying to find a new bass or two which are similar to ones I’ve used before but are still individual.

Aside from your work, what are your thoughts on music in general? What do you think of the scene both locally and worldwide?

In terms of EDM, I like where it is headed at the moment. Techno seems to be becoming a lot more acceptable here in Australia, which is great because as a genre it has so much to offer. I think worldwide, there is a big enough market for all genres to succeed, EDM is going strong and it’s great! In terms of music outside of EDM, anything Lana Del Ray is fantastic, haha.

Who are some artists that you feel have been your biggest inspirations?

From the start of my DJing, I have always had an obsession with Boys Noize, he is a genius. He always just makes his music and does his thing regardless of what others are doing. Surkin is another who I have been in love with since I started, always two steps ahead. Another huge inspiration for me is Mumbai Science, everything from their music to their attitude towards music is inspiring.

But aside from actual individuals, I get inspiration from anyone who is out there trying to achieve their dreams when people are telling them they aren’t going to make it. I had a lot of people try and tell me that I would go nowhere with my music, and not to say that I have made it (far from it), but I like to think I’m headed in the right direction.

What artist(s) would you like to work with in the future?

There’s so many. I mean, it’s my dream to work with my inspiration, but for now I think he is just out of my reach haha. In the future though, I would like to work with Rogerseventytwo, we have such different styles it would be great to work something out. I also want to work with NT89. He is making some huge techno at the moment, very exciting producer.

What can we expect from you in the future?

In the near future, I have a couple of EPs and remixes coming out and a move to Europe, so very busy within the next couple of months. Long term, I will just continue to work hard on my music and try to have a lot of fun doing so.

Favourite food?

Got to be Butter Chicken with a truck load of garlic naan.
