Daft Punk’s New Album Featuring Nile Rodgers

posted by Kat Bein

Holy shit. Holy shit. HOLY FUCKING SHIT. This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for. Some kind of real confirmation that our favorite French robots, the best of the best in dance floor designer beats, the masters of all you know are back in the studio. I point you to this article from Houston’s Culture Map, in which Nile Rodgers, the man behind the funky sounds of 1970s disco/funk/soul outfit Chic, talks about beating cancer and getting ready for the ultimate come-back: teaming up with Daft Punk to work on their epicly long-awaited fourth album (because I guess Tron doesn’t count, even though I love that soundtrack,...

The American Dream – twisted, broken and bloody as it is – tells us home-ownership is one of the peak experiences of human life. We grow up imagining our “dream home” and how wonderful it will be to furnish it exactly how we’d like it. Mine comes with an...

Black Milk Clothing: A Love Affair With Nylon

posted by Kat Bein

Once upon a time, there was a man named James Lillis, and he was poor – until he started making some of the sexiest leggings known to the world of fashion. Lillis is the brain and hands behind Black Milk Clothing. He makes leggings, dresses, swimsuits, bodysuits and skirts out of exclusively nylon fabrics. But this is no tacky-disco 80s trash. Black Milk Clothing is like works of art you can wear. A lot of pieces are very limited release, so super-fans know to check religiously for the best new styles and patterns. I’m particularly into the galaxy leggings and skeleton/skull wear. This stuff isn’t cheap. The leggings start...

Kathryn Carr’s Fantastical Magical Paper Wor...

posted by Kat Bein

Sometimes in art, the simplest methods create the most striking images, and although “simple” is not the first word that comes to mind when viewing Kathryn Carr‘s paper cuttings, her basic methods leave us with images we can’t get out of our heads. Since 2008, Carr has been turning black sheets of paper into fantasy-scapes straight from the story book in her mind. Inspired by the German paper cutting artist Scherenschnitte, her work embodies the playful mystery of old fairy tales and far away imaginary lands. And she’s totally self-taught. “I turned my attention to this art form because I was drawn to the...

Our very own GPS is back with another hour-long edition of banging grooves and groovin’ bangers. Big ups to 12 Inch Plastic Toys for making the sweet album art. And yes, this is the same mean-muggin-I-don’t-give-no-effs-play-in-my-best-Hawaiian-shirt DJ that rocked the dance floor...

What they say is true, waking up is hard to do – but it doesn’t have to be that way. Take my story for instance. My body naturally sleeps about 12 hours a day, and it really gets depressing waking up to three hours of sun. I’m used to setting three alarms at a time of the...

Brass Knuckles – Would I Lie To You

posted by Kat Bein

We were stoked to go to Dancegiving 2011 because of the ill line-up, but one of the best things about music festivals is discovering something really cool you haven’t been exposed to before. Brass Knuckles was a stand-out discovery for me that Saturday. As soon as I saw them setting up, I knew they were going to bring the party. Brass Knuckles are south Florida trio comprised of two DJs and a sexy sax man (who apparently also plays guitar from time to time). They brought their own customized t-shirts and trippy, prismatic glasses to throw into the crowd, and they got mad support from Miami’s hype-masters the Illuminatians who...

posted by Kat Bein

This past week, Miami has been celebrating its 10th annual Art Basel, a week in which the entire city is taken over by various artists from all over the world and rich people hover in super yachts to buy their work. It’s an exciting time to be in Miami, and everywhere you look are cool exhibits and installations. One of the coolest and largest pieces on display took place on the face of the Tides Hotel of South Beach Friday and Saturday night, and it didn’t even cost anything to see! A three and a half minute 3D video presentation celebrating 8bit video games and hot cars, brought to us by Pearl Media and Hyundai, as part of...
