I already said that the French do it best when it comes to making dance music, so I’m sure hearing another French artist is more than a welcoming concept to you.

Parisian producer Tchami came out with his debut release on Fool’s Gold earlier this week. If he had to describe his music to the average listener, he’d describe it as “the soundtrack of the deepest moments of your life.”

The release features two songs: the house-loaded “Promesses feat. Kaleem Taylor” and the weird, crazy “Shot Caller.”

“I had the vision of the EP before I made it,” says Tchami. “When it was done I sent it to a friend who really loved the EP. He loved it at that point that he sent it to A-Trak. And now you know what happened next…”

When I first reached out to him, I had to ask him if he was a football player, since that’s the main thing that turned up on search results.

“I think that people only need to know that I am Tchami. I am an artist. And I am definitely not a football player. My music has to speak for me. If not I’d rather do something else in my life.”

Though this release leans toward certain styles, Tchami has a wide range of inspirations. “I listen to a wide range of music that inspires me a lot in my creative process,” he explains. “So my tastes can go from Todd Edwards to Dj Premier, from Donny Hattaway to Dj Mehdi… and so much more. For this EP I really wanted to create something Deep and Hard at the same time.”

He also feels great about the recent rise in popularity of the styles by the likes of Duke Dumont, Disclosure, Gesaffelstein and others.

“I feel really good about it. Each artist you quoted is killer in his genre,” he says. “Let’s be simple, basically everything in the universe moves like a [sine] wave. I think every artist who masters his own vision and sound will find his audience. It is only a matter of time and how consistent you are with yourself. At the end of the day if you are great, you’ll be recognized for your work.”

And Tchami has definitely been recognized through this debut release. Listen and download his release for free, and also check out his remix of Janet Jackson’s “Go Deep!”
