Trends of 2013
Welcome to 2013, y’all! Hope you’re all nice and comfy, seeing as we’re a month in. So since the world didn’t end, lets talk about all the things we’re gonna wear. By this time 2014, it’ll be all the things you can’t stand to look at. Enjoy!
I really can’t think of a better name for this trend. This look is typically the go-to look for girls who own copius amounts of bandeaus and neon. The big colors this year are purple and orange (so far), so expect to see glaringly bright pops of color over cut outs tops.
Show off how in-touch with the earth you are by donning lots of crystal jewelry. Just don’t forget to leave it out on full moons to charge.
Drawing further inspiration from the 90′s, and your current favorite rave, you’ll need to pick up a pair of light-up heels. The only respectable brand to have is Jeffery Campbell, naturally. Leave on your X’s for an extra dash of party flare. Dance on, little fashionistas!
Welcome to club, fellas! It’s now perfectly acceptable to accessorize all your outfits. While you’ll want to stray away from the overly-rhinestoned aisles of Forever 21, there’s a lot of cool options for you.
For a more out-doorsy look, keep it rugged with animal influenced touches. Try a longer beaded necklace to add color to an outfit of neutrals. Tie a short handkerchief around your neck with a plain black tee and jeans.
Monk shoes and collar tips lend an old-school vintage masculinity to a button up and slacks. Not only are you adding personality to your outfit, your audience will be more interested in your appearance as a whole. Oh, and you can totally carry a purse now. It’s cool.
This is a trend just on the cusp of happening. I love it. Let’s make it happen.
Airbrush is fun and kitcsh and gangster all over. The key to pulling this off is to keep the rest of your outfit chic. Since most of the tops are baggy-ish, you want to add structure with your accessories.
I did this one for the ladies, but boys, you need to get all up in this trend too. Gals – Skinny ankle pants and classic almond or pointy closed-toe pump. Pull colors from your design and mix in some large graphic print, this look is all about whimsical liveliness.
Half the fun is getting this made at a boardwalk or flea market, so have fun with your picture or message. Take a page out of artist Baron Von Fancy’s book and get your airbrush to say something unexpected, crude or crass.
This has been going on for a hot second, and I love it. The look is totally old school and chivalrous. I just want to get pinned to every guy wearing one of these. If you can pull it off, it’s a total pantie-dropper.
The key is looking like you’ve graduated high school. Just like with the airbrush, you want to keep the rest of the outfit structured and chic. Tough accessories like a sturdy watch are good in small doses, but can get too meat-headed. To keep the style casual and understated, try an ankle length chino, wing-tips and a funky pair of socks.
Side-note: I have an inkling camo is going to be a big one this year. I am not emotionally stable enough to talk about it. I feel like a camo trend is like a dinosaur. Maybe if we don’t acknowledge it, it’ll just go feed on something else.
Having fun making 2013 the best year ever!
