GPS: What are your thoughts on your upcoming upcoming EP “Cascade?”
Konec: I’m really proud of it, I’m pleased with the consistency of theme between the original tracks, and the remixes are really good as well.
I know you are a redditor, care to tell us about the subreddits you frequent and like to post on?
Oh man. My favorite sureddit right now is /r/cringe, nothing better than a page full of videos that are almost impossible to watch all the way through. I also really like /r/graphic_design , /r/malefashionadvice and /r/fitness. I sometimes post on /r/edmproduction and there is a great community there for what’s going on in bass music at the moment
What do you think of the current state of EDM? Does anything about it/where it’s going bother you?
It’s great right now because there are so many talented people finding success from what they do. There is a big fanbase for it, more than a few years ago, and it hasn’t really been negatively impacted by popular culture (although some may argue that Justin Bieber having half time drums and some wobble basses in his song ‘As Long As You Love Me’ is the worst thing ever, but I think that’s ridiculous. I quite like the track).
However with the accessibility of the culture comes a downside. A lot of people seem to want overnight success, not just in popularity but in production skill as well which has led to quite a lot of conflict. The line between creators and consumers has definitely blurred.
So what do you like to listen to beyond EDM?
Without wanting to sound like your stereotypical 14-year-old girl who just got her first iPod touch, I listen to pretty much everything. My music taste tends to lean towards stuff with electronic sounds in it though, but not necessarily EDM.
At the moment, I’m really enjoying Grimes’ LP Visions. There is definitely a lot to be appreciated and learnt from it.
I’m also really enjoying Bear In Heaven’s LP I Love You, It’s Cool for the second time, after getting it half a year ago. “The Reflection Of You” from it is probably my favorite song from this year, alongside “Get Free” by Major Lazer.
What are your hobbies outside of producing?
I’m really enthusiastic about graphic design. I’ve also gone on a fitness bender recently, and I’m really enjoying weightlifting
My dad also somehow convinced me to take over from him winding the clock at the local clock tower. Not really a hobby though but whatever. Konec Trivia.
What are your thoughts on bacon?
It’s a good meat. Though it’s not as good as chicken. Sorry, world.
Would you rather fight one horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses? Why?
100 duck-sized horses. They are tiny. I could jump on them or something. Whereas, how am I gonna get a one up on a fucking huge duck that could probably eat me in a couple quacks?
Favorite childhood movie?
The Santa Clause, even if it was mid July.
What movie are you looking forward to watching?
Skyfall. Still haven’t seen it yet, family is insisting we all see it together.
Nice, which Bond girl do you think is the hottest?
Always had a thing for Elektra King. Oh, and Honey Ryder too.
What does your typical late-night adventure consist of?
Driving around the countryside with friends listening to mixes (favorite right now is Justice’s xmas mix) or roaming around Southampton trying to find a decent club.
Sounds like an adventure. What does the future hold for Konec?
More releases (currently planning to release a big drumstep tune for free closer to Christmas) as well as some European dates. Maybe my very own workout tape.
What music would be in that workout tape?
Mostly speedcore. Probably will put some Whitney Houston on there as well.
