Thursday’s 5 Must See Acts for Counterpoint, Line-up Announcement
Remember back when we told you this shit was going to be the fucking tits? Well we’re no fibbers and we don’t fucks around. The deities of Counterpoint have finally bestowed the line-up onto us. Honestly speaking, they did a great job piecing this together amidst all the talent these performers bring to the stage.
So you know the deal, all the festivals lately have gone electronic (no pun intended) and put their “Create Your Custom Schedule” right on their site, found here.
But for meow, let’s just focus on Thursday. Got to take it one day at a time, let it all soak in. There’s no particular order to my madness, just going off the time slots given to us.
1. Nobody Beats The Drum, Thursday 6:15 p.m. – 7:15 p.m., Beat Tent
What can I say about this Dutch trio? Oh, I know, that if you miss them live, you’re a dumbass. NBTD, comprised of producers Sjam Sjamsoedin and Jori Collignon, fuses electro with breaks and hip-hop to create a funk-filled set that will have you movin’ nonstop. To top it all off, the third man of the group, Rogier van der Zwaag, will steal your face with entrancing visuals that overlay the sound. If you want to read more, check out our friends over at Bionic Beatlab for a more in-depth look!
And c’mon, who doesn’t like fucking around with cats and lasers?
2. Adventure Club, Thursday 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., Beat Tent
The first time I saw this duo was back at the Pretty Lights Showcase after party for Ultra 2012. Yeah, I derp’d and missed out on the Fool’s Gold showcase, but hey, we all can’t go to the same show and cover nothing else. But holy shit, these two dropped some dirty dubstep for all you bassheads, straight out of Montreal.
Formed in early 2011, Adventure Club is a production outfit consisting of Christian Srigley & Leighton James. Their remixes range from 1950s, to post-alternative rock and even some hawwdcoahh for all of you closet high school scenesters. (Don’t worry, we were right there with you.) But if you don’t believe me, check them out the weekend before at Dayglow in Gainesville, presented by Committee Entertainment and The Dynasty Group. Here’s the link for more details, DERRGLERRR. If you like their music, 99 percent of it is free on their Soundcloud, check it.
3. Beats Antique, Thursday 8:45 – 10 p.m., Beat Tent
Do I really have to explain this? If you’re going to Counterpoint and haven’t heard, then just return your ticket, we don’t want you there. And if you don’t but want to keep it to yourself and play it off, then get informed from this interview KB got back at Hangout 2011!
And for all those who can’t make it… Don’t worry about missing out! Beats Antique will be in Gainesville next month on October 11th at the Florida Theater or whatever it wants to call itself. It’s hosted by the awesome people over at Glory Days! Shout out to my homegirl Jessie Erickson! Tickets can be found here TERRKERRTZ!
This track is off their long awaited album Contraption Vol. 2, which will be out in six days so keep an eye out for it!
4. Big Gigantic, Thursday 10:15 p.m. – 11:45 p.m., Beat Tent
What’s larger than life than a band with two adjectives? MY DICK. No but really, Big Gigantic has been killing the scene for a minute now, and they’re my personal favorite on Thursday’s line-up. If you’re wondering why, it’s because yes, I was a band geek and played sax in a high school ska band. But hey! We thought ska was going to go somewhere… Jeremy and Dom are great guys who like to get down to some funky chunes. Check out the post I did back in Feburary when BIG GEE came and showed Gainesville what the fuck was up! And like Adventure Club, most of their tracks are free, the way music should be. GRAB IT UP.
5. Up Until Now with special guest David Murphy of STS9, Thursday 10:15 p.m. – 11:45 p.m., BackBeat Stage
Well, shit. I know this set clashes with Big G, but man if you’ve never seen Jay Murphy get down, then I advise you to catch this set. He’s going to be up there with his brother David (from STS9), and I got damn excited when I saw they’re going to be closing out the first night. Very similar style to STS9, but what else could you expect with his brother being a member? So, if you’re down with the tribe, then get funky at the BackBeat Stage! He’s remixed all sorts of genres. He’ll be sure to tickle your funk spot.
