David Mach: Drowning in Magazines
We human beings are trashy – and by that, I mean we make a lot of trash. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, we Americans generated about 250 million tons of trash in 2010 alone. That’s a fucking load of garbage.
So what do we do with all that discarded stuff? Well, if you’re a badass, you turn it into art.
Meet David Mach, one such badass.
In this series of installations, he’s taken an unholy amount of discarded magazines and formed them into tall columns and crashing waves, sweeping every-day life into oblivion, using a literal mass of media to swamp the mundane in information torrents. Nothing is left un-enveloped, and the effect is quite striking.
Cheers to thinking outside the box, and if you aren’t recycling, well, start!
