Holiday Fashion With Feathers, Sequins and Glitter – OH MY!

Nikki Reed Feather Dress

Holiday Fashions for 2011

The holiday season is here and you know what that means – holiday parties. There is your office party, then the meet-the-boyfriend’s-parents party, parties with friends and relatives… they are endless.

If you are anything like me, you probably haven’t even started the grueling task of deciding what to wear to said parties, or even thought about what look to go with, so I took the liberty of helping out. Here are some tips that will have you standing out from the crowd.

A cocktail dress is always the safest bet for a holiday party. You can pick out an old one lying around or buy a new one, either way it is tres simple. To maximize your outfit and look absolutely fabulous, try a sequened or embellished jacket. They are the perfect add-on, and it compliments any cocktail dress.

Feathered skirts or dresses are a must this season.  If done right, your outfit will be the right mix of festive and fashion forward.  Just remember to go easy on the feathers because you don’t want to get mistaken for Big Bird.

Rachael Zoe, stylist for the stars, shared some advice about dressing and looking stylish for anything from a work function to that ever-important “meeting the future in-laws” dinner.

“A lot of times, those things are after work so I always say you gotta go for a day-to-night look. I think maybe a short dress with tights and flat boots or flats and a great blazer over it. After work, before you head out to the party, put on your pumps, throw your hair up, take the jacket off and put on a red lip, and you’re ready to go!”

Colors to remember: gold, black, silver. You can even throw in some red, but please don’t wear red and green together, because that is just taking it a tad-bit over board! As long as you have one of those colors in your look, I think you pretty much met the color requirements of holiday parties.

The most important thing to keep in mind is the style of the event itself.  No matter where you are going, you want to make sure you dress appropriate - you wouldn’t want a nip slip at your office holiday party!
