Gareth Pugh: Molesting the Line Between Fashion and Art
Gareth Pugh is a fashion designer. Gareth Pugh is an artist. Gareth Pugh is 29 years old. Gareth Pugh is brilliant.
He describes what he does as a battle between light and dark. His designs use strong structure and shape to warp the human body. His collections often implement PVC, foam, synthetic hair and electrically charged plastic.
His vision has innovated high fashion’s relationship with movement and shape.
Pugh has also changed the way his collections are presented. In the past few years, he has collaborated with fashion filmmaker Ruth Hogben to make films that replace a traditional catwalk premiere. The films demonstrate how the clothes move, and they often take on a life of their own.
People have taken notice of Pugh’s inspired designs and they have been worn by big names such as Beyonce, Rhianna, Kylie Minogue and Lady Gaga. The next time you hear a twatty lamestreamer talking about how Lady Gaga is this unbelievable force of fashion, you can kindly remind them she would be nothing without the real genius of designers like Gareth Pugh making the clothes for her.
Pugh has big plans for the future. It was recently announced that he will be designing an entire line of cosmetics for MAC coming in November. In any facet, I’m sure we can expect amazing things from this budding designer in years to come because Gareth Pugh is changing the way we look at fashion.
