Kumi Yamashita, Tim Noble and Sue Webster Play With Shadows
As a kid, I used to love it when my dad would make hand shadow puppets against a wall with a flashlight. Sometimes he would make a dog or a dinosaur, or maybe if he were really stoned, he would just hold up his hands to make some featureless creature with a huge gaping mouth that was always battling an identically mawed monster.
Artist Kumi Yamashita and art partnership Tim Noble and Sue Webster are also entertainers who like to work with shadows. Their work differs from my father’s own sad, misshapen attempts in that their work is fucking magic.
